Jason St. Pierre
Jason St. Pierre began playing professionally at the age of fifteen. He attended The New School for Social Research in New York City, and finished his education at Berklee College of Music in Boston Massachusetts, both on scholarship. During his twenty five years as a musician “paying his dues”, Jason has gigged with many of the jazz greats of our time including Jimmy Cobb, Lee Konitz and Benny Carter. He also spent three months touring with the well known rock band Blues Traveler.
Jason began his studies under local musicians and educators Donald Doane, Tony Boffa and Joe LaFlamme, and while living away from
Portland continued his concentrations under jazz saxophonists George Garzone, Jimmy Mosher, David Liebman and Charles Davis.
It is with these musicians’ guidance and expertise that Jason has been able to create his personal teaching style. It is this unique method
that he offers to students who are sincerely interested in learning harmonies and theories associated with a more disciplined music. Emphasis is placed on complete facility of the instrument for versatility, with a focus on an awareness for improvisation in jazz
The primary goal for any musician should be to have fun and ultimately share your musicianship with others. Each student that studies with Jason will be tracked for group and ensemble playing available at the school.
Jen has been working as a woodwinds private lesson teacher since the age of 17. Currently enrolled at the University of Southern Maine, she is studying Music Education with a concentration in saxophone. Her principal teacher at the university is Bill Street, who has worked with her on teaching techniques for saxophone, flute, clarinet, and basic piano.
Jen’s primary goal for young students is to encourage them to be the best musicians they can be in a fun and respectful manner. Growing up in a school system that wasn’t very motivating to beginning instrumental students is what drove her to become a music educator. In every lesson, Jen puts focus on all aspects of music from listening, singing, playing, improvising, and composing, as well as ear training and music theory.
Along with being a full time student, Jen also plays baritone saxophone in a local function band, Retrospecticus and also plays in a Tower of Power tribute band with other woodwind instructors, Anthony Marro and Jason St. Pierre.
