The Midcoast School of Music is pleased to announce our Chicago/Earth, Wind & Fire Ensemble!
Chicago was formed in 1967 and began their musical life as a harder-edged political rock band before developing a somewhat softer sound that led to a string
of hit ballads. They’ve always made extensive use of horns in their unique blend of rock, jazz, R&B, and pop. As one of the longest-running and most successful rock bands ever, they have sold over 38 million units in the U.S. alone—including 22 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums. Worldwide, their sales have topped the 120 million mark.
Chicago has never broken up, or taken an “extended break”. As of December, 2010 4 out of 6 original members remain active in the band. Among their hits are: “25 or 6 to 4”,
“Color My World”, “Saturday in the Park”, “Feeling Stronger Every Day”, “You’re the Inspiration”, and “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?”.
Earth, Wind & Fire was formed in Chicago in 1969 by brothers Verdine and Maurice White. The band’s music contains elements of African, Latin, funk,
soul, pop and rock music, jazz, and other genres. They were particularly well known for their vocal arrangements and dynamic horn section. Jazz icon Miles Davis described EW&F as his “all time favorite band” saying “they have everything—horns, singers, electric guitar and more—all in one band.”
Earth, Wind & Fire was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. They’ve won six Grammy awards and scored numerous hits on the Billboard and UK charts including “Shining Star”, “Boogie Wonderland”, “After the Love Has Gone”, and “Let’s Groove”.
The Midcoast School of Music is challenging students to discover some truly amazing music. It will require focus, and yes, practice, but the results will be well worth the effort!
